(Department of Emergency Management)

Members of the public can now vote for their favourite poem video entry in the Department of Emergency Management’s (DEM) Storm Ready Poetry contest.

To vote, persons may go to Instagram at dem.barbados, or on Facebook at dem246, look for the contestant’s videos and like their favourite entry.

The video with the most combined likes, that is on Facebook and Instagram, will be declared the winner of the Storm Ready Poetry contest. Voting closes at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, June 25.

This is the culmination of a poetry contest hosted by the DEM and the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) during the month of May for children aged seven to 11.

The children were required to submit a poem about storms or hurricanes for a chance to win prizes. The poems were required to be between 10 and 16 lines, and include the theme for the 2021 Hurricane Awareness Month: Be Storm Ready.

A total of 73 entries were received, and the top five contestants were required to read their poems during a video recording at CBC.
