In preparation for this year’s Digicel Barbados Defence Force’s (BDF) Charity Walk and Run, several boot camps are currently being held to assist those persons who will be participating in the event.

The Have A Heart boot camps will be held every Monday and Thursday, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and a small fee will be charged. Persons interested in participating in the exercises should contact Force Welfare Officer, Harriet Clarke, at 536-2912, or Sports Coordinator, Captain Michael Jules, at 536-2590.

On Monday, July 3, there will be recreational activities at St. Ann’s Fort (SAF), the Garrison; on July 6 there will be an endurance walk/run in the environs of the Garrison; interval training at SAF on July 10; a general physical training session with music at SAF on July 13; and beach training at Brandon’s beach on July 17.

Circuit training will be held on July 20, and aerobics/dancercise on July 24, both at SAF; while the endurance walk/run will be at the Barbados Coast Guard, Spring Garden, on July 27; and aerobics/dancercise at SAF on July 31.

The 2nd Charity Walk and Run will be held on Saturday, August 19, starting at the BDF, St. Ann’s Fort.  Registration for adults will be $30; $15 for children under 12 years; and $25 per person for groups of 10 or more. There will also be a corporate challenge for the run, and teams of five persons are eligible to enter.

The aims of the walk and run are: to raise funds for the Precious Touch Foundation (Inc.) and the BDF’s Morale, Welfare & Recreation activities for children and families; as well as encourage physical fitness and healthy lifestyles among the population.

Last year, approximately BDS $10,000 was donated to the Precious Touch Foundation to assist with the granting of wishes of children between the ages of two and 16, who have been diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions and or terminal illnesses.
