Women from the Warrens area are encouraged to take part in a series of informative sessions being coordinated by the Warrens Polyclinic to dispel the myths surrounding breast-feeding.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 22, at 2:30 p.m., and will be led by Dietician, Karen Griffith, who will cover demand feeding and sterilisation.

The following week, Tuesday, March 1, Nurse/Midwife, Adina Dawe, will speak on the topic medication and breast-feeding and family planning.?? Meetings will be held every Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. until March 15 and will cover preparation for work, the importance of family support, peer pressure and myths.

The meetings of the Breast-feeding Support Group will run until September and will be held every last Tuesday in the month at the polyclinic at 2:30 p.m.

Topics already covered include the nutritional value of colostrum (a form of milk produced by the mammary glands in late pregnancy that contains antibodies to protect the newborn against disease) and how to overcome problems encountered during breast-feeding.????lbayley@barbados.gov.bb
