When the House of Assembly meets tomorrow, Government will be seeking to bring the Barbados Water Authority under the ambit of the Fair Trading Commission.

A Bill to this effect, in the name of Health Minister, Dr. David Estwick, will get its First Reading at tomorrow’s sitting. It aims to “amend the Barbados Water Authority Act, Cap. 274A, to make the power given to the authority to determine rates and charges in respect of the supply of water and sewerage services subject to regulation by the Fair Trading Commission, in accordance with the Utilities Regulation Act Cap. 282 and the Fair Trading Commission Act Cap. 326B.”

There are two other items on the Order Paper for debate under Government Business. Dr. Estwick will also move the First Reading of the Nurses Bill 2008. It seeks to repeal and replace the Nurses and Midwives Registration Act, Cap. 372, to make new provision for the registration, regulation and discipline of the nursing profession, and for related purposes.

Minister of Housing and Lands, Michael Lashley, will introduce a Resolution to approve the grant of a lease in accordance with Section 5 of the Crown Lands (Vesting and Disposal) Act, Cap. 225 to Barbados Conference Services Limited, of a piece Crown land together with the building thereon, the Sherbourne Conference Centre at Two Mile Hill, St. Michael.
