We Gatherin’ Barbados 2020 is a year-long campaign which gives citizens an opportunity to recommit to the core Barbadian values that define us as a proud, caring, industrious people, with an outstanding tradition of excellence.

This is according to Dr. Allyson Leacock, who gave some background to the initiative at the launch – We Gatherin’ Barbados 2020 –  in Parliament’s Courtyard recently.  Dr. Leacock said it was designed to ignite the national consciousness of Barbadians at home and abroad.

“We Gatherin’ will focus on rebuilding the spirit of community that is the essence of our traditional Barbadian way of life.  It will provide opportunities for Barbadians to celebrate, participate and invest in events and projects across the entire island….

“Together, we will use the valuable tools and lessons of the past, so magically reflected almost every week in our articulate centenarians.  It is our chance to embrace our people with disabilities to truly work towards a fully accessible Barbados,” Dr. Leacock pointed out.

The year 2020 has been designated as the year for Barbadians and those who love this country to come home, reconnect with family and friends, and invest in the rebuilding and development of Barbados.

We Gatherin’ will start in the north of the island in January 2020, and move southward every month, allowing the designated parish to showcase its icons, food, social life and what makes it unique.

January – St. Lucy

May – St. John
