Residents across Barbados are being encouraged to join the global celebrations for World Environment Day and wear green on Thursday, June 5.

School children, public and private sector workers across Barbados are being encouraged to wear green T-shirts, green ribbons or green articles of clothing in celebration of the day as Barbados hosts the global event.

Environmental Education Officer in the Ministry of the Environment and Drainage, Donna King-Brathwaite said that all those who wear green on World Environment Day will be demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship.

The theme for this year???s global celebration is Small Island Developing States and Climate Change, while the slogan is Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level.

Barbados is recognised for its contributions as a Small Island Developing State (SIDS) in preventing, pre-empting and mitigating the effects of climate change.

As a result, the international media will be focusing on the island???s ongoing environmental campaign, and its strides and achievements towards preserving the environment will be highlighted across the global platform.
