Members of the public are invited to a webinar on Monday, November 23, at 9:00 a.m. entitled: The Importance of Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance. To register, persons may click here.

The online event is being held as part of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW), November 18 – 24.

It is being hosted by the Pan American Center for Foot-and-Mouth Disease and Veterinary Public Health, as well as the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) as part of global efforts to raise awareness and tackle antimicrobial resistance.

Its aim is to share information on how to address Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) from a surveillance perspective and to discuss integrated surveillance systems for AMR in the Americas.

The activities carried out during the week are aimed at promoting best practices among public health workers and policy makers.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) have supported the World Health Organization in coordinating and implementing the WAAW campaign to ensure that stakeholders comply with the commitments made in the Political Declaration and Global Action Plan, and to address and mitigate the spread of AMR under the “One Health” concept.

The AMR issue is of critical importance to Barbados, and earlier today, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley was appointed the co-chair of the One Health Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), along with Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina.
