Barbadians will soon have another opportunity to reflect on excellence and look at how they can make it a part of their lives.
A Week of Excellence will be observed from Sunday, February 23, under the theme: Embracing and Supporting Initiatives for Recovery: Challenges and Solutions in Charting the Way Forward. On that day, there will be a service at the Cornerstone Wesleyan Holiness Church, Sargeant???s Village, Christ Church, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Three seminars will be held during the week, commencing at 8:30 a.m. each day, for approximately 250 participants. The first will be held on Monday, February 24, at the Grande Salle, Central Bank of Barbados and Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, Senator Jepter Ince; President of the Barbados Private Sector Association, Alex McDonald; General Secretary of the Barbados Workers??? Union (BWU), Sir Roy Trotman and Advisor to the Governor of the Central Bank, Peter Whitehall, will deliver remarks.
There will also be presentations on Productivity and Innovation: The Case of Harris Paints and Rewarding Excellence ??? Promoting Productivity: The Case of Williams Industries, among others.
On Tuesday, February 25, the workshop will be held at the BWU Solidarity House and Minster of Labour, Senator Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo and Deputy General Secretary of the BWU, Toni Moore, will deliver opening remarks. The topics to be examined include The Impact of An Economic Crisis on the Mental Health of the Workforce, The Relationship Between Workplace Illness and Productivity and Nutritional Intervention for Non-Communicable Disease Control.
Discussions will move to the BWU Labour College at Mangrove, St. Philip, on Wednesday, February 26, and there will be presentations on Quality Service Delivery and Effective Communication Towards Impacting Customer Relations, among others.
The week will culminate on Saturday, March 1, with an initiative entitled: Taking Service Excellence to the Streets and Healthy Lifestyle Expo, which is aimed at sharing information on how to develop personal excellence with Barbadian workers. Officials from The Productivity Council, Office of Public Sector Reform (OPSR), the BWU and the Barbados Employers??? Confederation (BEC) will be involved in the promotion which will start at 11:00 a.m. and will interact with people along Broad Street, Roebuck Street, High Street and Fairchild Street.
The Week of Excellence Programme was initiated in 2003, and emerged in response to the new market liberalisation and globalisation thrust which increased the need for productivity-focused businesses and effective competitiveness strategies. It seeks to increase productivity awareness and excellence across the various sectors and give stakeholders an opportunity to participate in critical dialogue on those issues.
Those organisations which were a part of the initial organising committee included the Social Partnership, The Productivity Council, the Central Bank of Barbados, the Barbados Statistical Service and the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados. But, it was expanded later to include the National Initiative for Service Excellence, BEC and OPSR.
