Government will no longer use the Christ Church Welfare Office building at Oistins to house staff or cater to the needs of members of the public.

This was decided today by the Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Urban Development, Dr. Denis Lowe, after a tour of the building with Ministry staff and officials of the Ministry of Housing and Lands.

Dr. Lowe said: “This building is not acceptable and should be pushed down and rebuilt. It should be condemned.”  The building, which is in a state of disrepair, has been abandoned since May, this year, and staff is being accommodated at the main Welfare Office in the City.

Consideration is being given to the old Rates and Taxes building next door, which will require substantial repairs.
