Barbados’ oldest fish vendor 95 year-old Millicent "Millie" Ifill will be honoured for her sterling contribution to the local fishing industry this coming Wednesday, October 26.

That is when the Weston Fish Market in Weston, St. James, will be renamed the Millicent Ifill Fish Market during a ceremony which starts at 4:30 p.m.

The event is being coordinated by the Weston Experience Group in collaboration with the Markets Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Water Resource Management.

Minister of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Water Resource Management, Dr. David Estwick, will deliver the feature address and unveil the plaque during the renaming ceremony.

Millie has received several awards and accolades for her sterling service and is a stalwart of the Weston, St. James community.

She was born on November 29, 1915 at Broomefield, St. Lucy and has been involved in the fishing industry for some five decades.
