Who will be the next CLICO Barbados Teacher of the Year?

Come September, the process of selection will commence and according to Chairman of the Awards Committee, Senior Education Officer, Joy Gittens, the competition should attract the wide participation of the island’s teaching profession.

"It is hoped that this year’s Awards will promote excellence in teaching by highlighting models of best practice," she said.

Ms. Gittens pointed out that since its launch in 2003, the biannual activity had selected "articulate, confident and competent teachers," for the post of Teacher of the Year. Stressing that the event was open to teachers from both public and private nursery, primary and secondary schools, the Senior Education Officer said she was hoping that the initiative would attract increased entries "across the board".

Eligible teachers may be nominated by their principals or peers and the eventual winner of the Award will receive BDS $10,000 and an overseas trip to the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development Conference to be held in San Antonio, Texas, in addition to other prizes.??

Applicants must be full-time with a minimum of five years’ experience and be working in the profession for at least another two years.?? They should also be Barbadian citizens or foreign nationals residing in this country for no less than five years.??
