The World Health Organization’s (WHO) Regional Director for the Americas, Dr. Carissa Etienne, paid a courtesy call on Minister of Health, John Boyce, today, at the Barbados Hilton, Needhams Point, St. Michael.

Dr. Etienne, who is based in Washington D.C., United States, is in Barbados for the 2013 Caribbean Pan American Health Organisation Managers’ Meeting taking place at the Hilton this week. She praised Barbados for the "tremendous role" it has played over the years in shaping reforms in the WHO. The Director also welcomed the Health Minister into the PAHO fold, pointing out the "supportive relationship" the organisation has enjoyed with the island.

Mr. Boyce said he looked forward to working with Dr. Etienne, who was recently appointed to her post, adding that he wished her well in her new dispensation. Dr. Etienne, who was formerly Assistant Director-General, Health Systems and Services, at the WHO headquarters in Geneva, also gifted Mr. Boyce with a book on the history of PAHO.
