Minister of Family, Stephen Lashley

The achievements of Barbadian women will again be celebrated when the Bureau of Gender Affairs hosts a Rally and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, March 19 – its final activity to commemorate International Women’s Day.

It will be held at the Springer Memorial School, Government Hill, St. Michael, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Minister of Family, Stephen Lashley, will deliver the feature address and present awards to two outstanding women who excelled in the area of education, while President of the National Organisation of Women, Yvonne Walkes, will give remarks, as well as Director of the Bureau, Patricia Hackett-Codrington.

During the evening, Chairperson of the National Advisory Council on Gender, Joan Cuffie will speak on Education as a Pathway to Decent Work; while United Nations Resident Coordinator, Michelle Giles-McDonnaugh, will examine The Quest for Women’s Rights; and Government’s Advisor on Poverty Alleviation, Undene Whittaker, will discuss Education and Entrepreneurship – a Vehicle for Upward Mobility.

Performers on the night will include Mission Prayze, Jennifer Walker, Drama Konnections, Dancin’ Africa and John King.

The rally will be preceded by an exhibition and sale being organised by the Women Entrepreneurs of Barbados. It will run from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Members of the public are invited to attend both events.
