Some 20 officers from across the civil service will soon be better equipped to educate and sensitise their peers about the guidelines contained in Government’s Code of Practice on HIV/AIDS and other Life Threatening Illnesses, which was launched last October.

That is because the Ministry of Labour will commence the first of two training-of-trainers workshops on the document, this Thursday, February 25, at the Tamarind Cove Hotel, Paynes Bay, St. James, starting at 9:00 a.m.

The one-day session will focus on training personnel officers and HIV/AIDS Coordinators from the various ministries.?? Its aim is to provide a cadre of persons who will deliver training to the various public sector organisations.

The 14-page Code of Practice is the brainchild of the Ministry of Labour’s HIV/AIDS Core Group and signifies Government’s commitment to treat all employees in the public sector in a fair and non-discriminatory manner regardless of their HIV status or any life threatening illness.

The booklet addresses several pertinent issues related to the modern workplace and deals with health related matters including confidentiality, stigma and discrimination, the desire and ability to work, and safety and health.

The Code of Practice is available at the Ministry of Labour, 3rd Floor, Warrens Office Complex, Warrens, St. Michael and on the website of the Barbados Government Information Service https://www.gisbarbados.gov.bb/. (askeete@barbados.gov.bb)
