Small and medium-sized enterprises will get the opportunity to learn more about managing their intellectual property.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in conjunction with the Barbados Investment & Development Corporation (BIDC), will host a three-day workshop entitled Management of Intellectual Property (IP) Assets By Small And Medium Sized Enterprises, from Wednesday, January 24, to Friday, January 26.

It will be conducted at Building 2, Harbour Industrial Park, (Opposite Oran Ltd.)., from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The key focus will be on Intellectual Property (IP) and the importance of effective IP management to enhancing competitiveness. To this end, the sessions will address: Managing IP in International Business; IP Law and Administration in Barbados; Leveraging Technical Innovation in the Marketplace: A Practical Approach; Packaging and Branding and Understanding of the Basic Concepts and Tools of Marketing.

Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development, Donville Inniss, will give opening remarks at the start of the workshop on Wednesday, January 24, at 9:00 a.m.

Facilitators from Barbados include attorneys-at-law Fiona Hinds and Tammy Bryan; Director of Export and Business Development, Marina Taitt; and Manager, Design Services at BIDC, Stella Hackett.

The BIDC/WIPO workshop will also be addressed by Clinical ProfessorCenter for Research in Technology & Innovation, Managerial Economics and Decision Science of the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, USA, James Conley; Former Advisor, International Marketing and

Branding, International Trade Centre (ITC), United Nations, Geneva Krister Ahlberg; and Counsellor, SMEs and Entrepreneurship Support Division, WIPO, Annil Sinha.
