The professional development of educators, principals, teachers and guidance counsellors is being emphasised once again while schools are on vacation.

Several workshops planned by the Erdiston Teachers’ Training College in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, will continue to do just that over the next week.

The annual series, which began Monday, March 28 and ends Friday, April 8, targets professionals in the private and public sectors and at the primary and secondary levels.

Among the workshops to be held next week at the Training College, will be Experiencing Fun in The Teaching and Learning of Mathematics, from April 4 to 7 and From Violence To Virtue – Creating A Culture of Character, Safety and Respect In Our Schools, from April 4 to 8.

Training will also be provided in the Use of the Smart Board in the Classroom from April 6 to 8, at the Media Resource Department of the Ministry of Education, Elsie Payne Complex.

While most sessions are centred on the teaching/learning environment, there will be a special seminar on Monday, April 4, at the Training College, addressing the personal growth and development of educators. It will examine issues of retirement including wealth accumulation instruments and calculating retirement benefits.

All workshops run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. daily.

According to Senior Tutor at the Erdiston Teachers’ Training College and Coordinator of the sessions, Henderson Nurse, it is expected that at the end participants will share the information and materials with colleagues, while implementing strategies and techniques in the classroom.
