Minister of Social Care, Christopher Sinckler??

The Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment, Urban and Rural Development, in collaboration with the Community Development Department will be staging a Health Fair, March and Rally, to observe World AIDS Day, on Tuesday, December 1.

While the international theme for this year’s observation is "I Am", organisers selected "I Am Making a Difference in the fight Against HIV and AIDS" as the focus for the local programme.

Minister of Social Care, Christopher Sinckler, will deliver the feature address to open the Health Fair on December 1, at 10:00 a.m. in Jubilee Gardens. Acting Director of the National HIV/AIDS Commission, Mrs. Jackie Wiltshire-Gay, will also deliver remarks.

Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) by the Ministry of Health, as well as blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure checks by the Barbados Diabetes Association, will be provided. Patrons can also avail themselves to educational materials from the Caribbean AIDS Alliance, C.A.R.E Barbados (Comfort Assist Reach Out Educate), United Gays and Lesbians Association of Barbados (UGLABB), the AIDS Hot Line and the National Disabilities Unit, among others.

A Human HIV/AIDS Ribbon will be formed in the Post Office Amphitheatre at 2:00 p.m., by members of the Ministry’s staff, along with local HIV/AIDS Education Committees and representatives of the Caribbean AIDS Alliance.

Meanwhile, the march will leave the General Post Office at 2:30 p.m. for Jubilee Gardens, where the rally will begin at 3:00 p.m. and end at 5:00 p.m.

Entertainers slated to perform at the rally include:?? John King, Paula Hinds and Sir Ruel. The rally will also feature performances by the Silver Sands Community Dancers, the St. Peter HIV/AIDS Education Committee, Double Laugh Theatre and?? the Tanika Walton Models, among others.
