Government’s commitment to the HIV and AIDS fight came under the microscope recently when a World Bank mission met with Minister of Family, Stephen Lashley, during a courtesy call at his Constitution Road, St. Michael, office.

Mr. Lashley told the group that Barbados valued its relationship with the World Bank, noting frank dialogue was important.

Those?? attending the meeting included Senior Public Health Specialist and Task Team Leader, Dr. Joana Godinho; Director of CDC-Brazil and World Bank Consultant, Dr. Aristides Barbosa; Public Health Specialist, Carmen Carpio; Senior Financial Management Specialist, Dr. Mozammal Hoque; and Director of the HIV/AIDS Commission, Jacqueline Wiltshire-Gay.

Dr. Godinho said her team had a "useful project review session" and would return in six months.

The mission is here to assess the progress of the US $35 million second Government of Barbados/World Bank HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Project which became effective on January 6, 2009.

The project supports the implementation of the National Strategic Plan for HIV Prevention and Control 2008-2013 and the Cabinet-approved behaviour change strategy. saustin@barbados.gov.bb
