Boxing on their minds: Minister of Sports, Stephen Lashley, in conversation with (from left) Commonwealth Super Light Weight Boxing Champion, Miguel Antoine, and boxing promoter Samuel Layne.
(F. Todd)??

Barbados is grooming a world champion boxer in the form of the winner of the Commonwealth Super Light Weight Boxing Championship, Miguel Antoine.

At least this is the view of boxing promoter, Samuel Layne, which he shared recently during an official meeting with Minister of Sports, Stephen Lashley, and Mr. Antoine at the Minister’s Warrens office.

Mr. Layne described Antoine, a 23-year-old boxer, as skilled and highly disciplined, and proffered the view that once he was given the necessary support he could become a world champion.

The young boxer agreed, stating that once he "put in hard work" he would be a winner. He noted that the February 25, 2011 boxing championship in Guyana was a "hard fight", but his intense training and crowd support paid off.??

Mr. Lashley told his guests that his Ministry was aware of the challenges relating to indoor facilities and was seeking to address some of them. He congratulated Antoine for winning the title and promised he would keep track of his progress.

Miguel Antoine has fought and won 14 boxing matches.
