A number of activities have been organised to mark World Glaucoma Week, being observed from Sunday, March 10 to Saturday, March 16

The week officially begins with a church service at the St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Bay Street, St. Michael, on Sunday, March 10.?? There will also be training for medical and paramedical personnel during the week.

The public is invited to the Glaucoma Expo on Saturday, March 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael. There will be pharmaceutical and information booths, free glaucoma testing, public lectures/discussions and a special emphasis on low vision aids.??

Then, on Sunday March 17, there will be a 5K awareness walk, beginning at 4:00 p.m. from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s playing field, Martindales Road, St. Michael to Accra Beach in Rockley.?? No pre-registration is required.

A number of Ophthalmology and Optometric practices will offer free glaucoma screenings during the week, to among other things, check the intraocular pressure in the eye.?? Members of the public are urged to make use of the free screenings and come out during the week to learn more about this group of eye conditions, which may lead to blindness.??
