Linking people will be the order of the day when the Ministry of Tourism hosts a Bajan Pride Exposition on Saturday, October 1, in observance of World Tourism Day.

With the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) having announced Tourism: Linking Cultures as this year’s theme, the Ministry has chosen to use the increasingly popular Expo to bring vibrant Caribbean culture to Independence Square, the City.?? From 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., the essence of Barbados, its neighbours and the countries from which its tourists hail will be brought together for the celebrations.

In addition to the cuisine and craft which will be on sale, patrons will be treated to performances from local entertainers, including the Pinelands Creative Workshop and the Haynesville Drummers.?? There will also be a fashion show featuring the work of a local designer and free, guided Jitney Bus tours of Bridgetown and the Garrison Historic Area.?? These tours will be conducted at 10:00, 11:15 a.m., 3:00 and 4:15 p.m.

World Tourism Day, which is officially observed on Tuesday, September 27, was first celebrated in 1980.?? The day was chosen to commemorate a memorable day in tourism history – the adoption of the UNWTO Statutes, in 1970.
