Some of Barbados??? best and brightest will battle it out next week, when WorldSkills Barbados 2014 begins.

This year???s competition will feature some exciting changes for participants and the public, with the event to be held over four days instead of three, and the culinary arts competition being hosted at the Dining Club, Newton Industrial Park, Christ Church.

WorldSkills Barbados will ???hit the road??? this weekend with a motorcade on Saturday, March 8, from 9:00 a.m., beginning at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP), Wildey, St. Michael.

The motorcade, which will make stops at the Dining Club and Sheraton Centre, will travel through the Pine and Wildey, St. Michael; Sargeant???s Village, Kingsland and Vauxhall, Christ Church; and Independence Square, Wharf Road and Broad Street, The City; ending at Heroes Square.

When the competition begins on Wednesday, March 12, contestants in the beauty therapy, hairdressing, garment making and automotive technology sections will showcase their best at the SJPP, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

On Saturday, March 15, the action will head to the Dining Club, where young chefs will compete from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.??Members of the public are invited to attend the free event, which will also feature career advice sessions and other related services.

WorldSkills Barbados targets students in the 16 to 22 age group enrolled in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.
