Primary and secondary school students and young adults are invited to join a peace march and rally slated for Bridgetown on Monday, June 17.

All persons interested in participating are asked to meet at the Islamic Mosque in Sobers Lane at 9:30 a.m.  The procession will then travel to the Jewish Synagogue in Synagogue Lane, and then on to St. Michael’s Cathedral in St. Michael’s Row.  It climaxes in Queen’s Park with a rally.

Themed Journey in Faiths, the march will expose the young people to the three Abrahamic faiths represented in Bridgetown – Islamic, Jewish and Christian.  At each religious site, they will meet members of the faith and engage with them about their beliefs.

At the Steel Shed in Queen’s Park, they will meet and dialogue with members of the Rastafarian faith who have joined the others in spearheading this peace initiative.

At the rally, the young people will also present their own messages of peace and hear from Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Cynthia Forde, whose ministry is responsible for Ecclesiastical Affairs.

The march and rally will precede the opening of a two-day Abrahamic Faiths Conference being hosted by Codrington College, in partnership with the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, on Tuesday, June 18, and Wednesday, June 19.

The conference, which has as its theme Peace in a World of Conflict – Building on a Common Heritage, will bring together representatives of the Abrahamic faiths along with the Rastafarian community to engage across religions to create and reinforce an environment of peace in the Caribbean and by extension, the world.

The final event will be a free, public panel discussion at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, on Wednesday, June 19, starting at 7:30 p.m.

The panel will comprise representatives of all the faiths as well as lecturer in Sociology at the Cave Hill Campus, Dr. Alana Griffith. The moderator will be journalist, David Ellis.
