Young people are being urged to take part in any youth forum which relates to the shaping of their future.

This call was made by Minister of Youth, Family and Sports, Stephen Lashley,?? today, as he addressed the Child Care Board’s Youth Seminar entitled "Who am I: Perspectives of the Child". The event, which took place at Solidarity House, is part of celebrations to commemorate Child Month.

Minister Lashley stressed the importance of this and similar youth seminars, alluding to Articles 12 and 13 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which maintain that the child has the right to express his /her opinions and views; obtain information; and make their ideas known regardless of the frontier.??????????????????????

He asserted: "Young people must be included in discussion that would assist in better understanding them, as well as ensuring that the programmes being developed

[by the Child Care Board, by extension the Ministry of Youth, Family and Sports, and all adults] would better respond to their needs and responsibilities."

The Youth Minister encouraged the young people to articulate their views throughout the day’s interactive sessions, and advised them to treat each other with respect and courtesy.

He also invited them to participate in the upcoming National Youth Forum which will be launched on June 20.
