Barbados’ CARICOM Youth Ambassadors, Tirshatha Jeffrey and Chad Monerville, will host a discussion on The Role Youth Play In Advancing Regional Integration, tomorrow, Thursday, July 4, as one of the events to mark CARICOM Day.
The ambassadors said the event was being staged to mark CARICOM’s 46th anniversary, and as a way to promote regionalism, with the questions and suggestions received from young people about CARICOM and its benefits to be forwarded to the CARICOM Secretariat.
During the discussion, young people are, therefore, being encouraged to articulate how they view themselves as CARICOM citizens, and whether they areinterested in playing an active role in policy development.
The discussion will begin at 7:00 p.m. via a livestream on the CARICOM Youth Ambassadors’ Instagram page @cyabarbados and their Facebook pages. Questions and suggestions may also be sent to cya@barbados.gov.bb.
The youth ambassadors have been staging a number of events as a lead up to CARICOM Day, including a 10k challenge and clean-up exercise at St. Giles Primary School.
A highlight of the week is the convening of the 40th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), at Sandals Grande in St Lucia, from July 3 to 6, with special guests, United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres and Prime Minister of Norway, Erna Solberg.
