Young Barbadians will soon get the opportunity to improve and hone their professional and practical skills.

This will be realised when the St. James Central Constituency Council hosts a joint public/ private display of formal education and on-the-job training on Saturday, March 1, from 9: 00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Hoyte???s Village playing field, St. James.

Under the theme: Closing The Gap: Building Skills for the future, young people will be exposed to public and private sector organisations providing formal education and practical hands-on-training, as well as learning to integrate themselves into the labour market in order to satisfy current and future employment needs.

During the day, a number of health and wellness services will be offered. There will also be cultural presentations, line dancing, and art and craft and pastry displays.

In addition, teams from the communities of Arch Hall, Redman???s Village, Bagatelle, Hoyte???s Village, Paynes Bay, Trents and Risk Road will participate in a six-a side football tournament, arm wrestling and tug-a war competitions and fun races.

The aim of the initiative is to close the gap between education and vocational training; promote industry related services as future areas for employment generation and to promote employability competencies among young Barbadians.
