An opportunity to speak about positives in the school system is what fourth and fifth form students of secondary schools will get next week, when they attend the first ever Youth Conference to be held during Education Month.

The Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation will host the event on Tuesday, October 13, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael. It runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

With its emphasis on students, one of the main stakeholders in education, the forum will allow them the chance to voice opinions on matters that affect and facilitate the generation of ideas.

The Youth Conference is being held under the theme: Positive Vibes ??? Students??? Ideas for Education. Two students in uniform along with a teacher, from both public and private secondary schools, will comprise each delegation. Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ronald Jones, will deliver remarks and make a declaration on the conference.

Students will be addressed on the Schools??? Positive Behaviour Management Programme (SPBMP), particularly areas related to student councils, positive behavior management, safe and protective environments and health and family life education.??A key topic which the young delegates will examine is: What???s Positive In My School, a question which calls for students to speak for one minute to their counterparts.

They will also look at What We Want To See in Education as they sit together in mixed groups of five. At the end of the session, it is expected that the groups will report their recommendations to Education Officer responsible for SPBMP, Janice Reid, for onward transmission to the Ministry.
