The Division of Energy and Telecommunications has extended the deadline for the submission of entries for its Youth Energy Week Competitions. The new date is now Friday, January 11, for all categories.

First, Second and Third form students are invited to submit an essay on the topic: How to be More Responsible Energy Users. Prizes include a Kindle Fire, and Ariel Trek and 3D Movie passes.

Children in the five to seven age group will be able to show their creativity by downloading a picture and colouring it as a feature of the colouring contest.?? Prizes will include a bicycle, toys and books.????????????????????????

Meanwhile, there are three competitions for children in the eight to 11 age group. They will have a choice between two essays and a poster competition.

The poster competition has as its theme: Energy the Engine of the Economy and children are being asked to create a unique poster depicting this topic. Prizes include a submarine tour, art supplies and passes to Harrison’s Cave.

For the essay competition, children may choose from the topics: How Renewable Energy is used in Barbados, or Discuss the value of Electricity in Barbados. Prizes will include Island Safari tours, submarine tours and 3D Movie passes.

In addition, Fourth and Fifth formers are invited to enter the essay competition under the theme: The Role of Energy Innovations In Creating A Sustainable Barbados. Prizes will include an iPad, Ariel Trek passes and a Jolly Roger cruise.??
