Members of the public are being encouraged to come out and support the youth when they take the spotlight at the inaugural National Youth Expo, slated for Queen’s Park on Saturday, March 28.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Youth, Family and Sports, and the Barbados Youth Development Council, the Expo will get under way at 10:00 a.m. and has as its theme, “Be seen, be heard, be known”.

Forty booths will be set up, some of which will provide information on the various services offered by several organisations, including the Barbados Cadet Corps, the Barbados Boys’ Scouts Association, the HIV/AIDS Youth Committee and a number of departments which fall under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth.

There will also be a youth market, where young entrepreneurs and small business persons will promote and market their products and services. An entertainment village featuring jumping tents, rock climbing, inflatable sports and games will also be created.

Later in the afternoon, there will be a fashion show featuring BoUiK and other young designer labels. A concert will follow, showcasing the talents of a number of young entertainers, including Kareem Agard, LRG, Nexcyx and Ayana John. Praise Academy of Dance, Israel Lovell Foundation and Little People Fun and Frolic are expected to excite the spectators with their dance moves.

During the day, parents will get an opportunity to register their four to 15 year old children for Camp Connections, Government’s Easter camps which will begin on Monday, March 30, at several venues across the island.

Meanwhile, hundreds more are expected to throng Queen’s Park in the afternoon, when a mid-day parade of uniformed units, campers and groups from the Barbados Youth Development Council culminates there. The procession will start at Pelican Village and travel through Broad Street.
