Minister of Youth, Family and Sports, Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo (FP)??

"We are blessed that all our students can gain a place in a secondary school and that whatever school they pass for the standard of education will be high."??

This assertion was given by Minister of Youth, Family and Sports, Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo, as she addressed the Wills Primary School graduation and prize-giving ceremony, last Wednesday, at the Christ Church Parish Church Auditorium.??

The Minister held the view that Barbados was blessed to have dedicated and qualified teachers, as well as decent school facilities with places for all students, whether in the private or public sector.?? "All of our schools in Barbados are good schools… and I hope parents have reinforced that to their children, and continue to reinforce that whether in public or private school, newer or older secondary school, the difference between success and failure is ultimately you," she stated.

Dr. Byer Suckoo also reminded parents that they were as important as teachers, if not more so, in identifying and honing the talents of children.??

"Parents are as important as teachers, if not more so, in identifying those talents.??Parents, study your children… Parents, play an important role in the education and moral upbringing of your children.??These roles include the monitoring of your children’s activities, finding useful activities for them in, monitoring the company they keep, as well as seeing that they spend sufficient time preparing and doing their homework. And now that your children have passed one milestone, take it from me, it is not yet time to relax," she advised.

Eighteen students graduated from the private school, including valedictorian Adam Gibbs, who emerged as one of the top 10 students in the recently concluded Barbados Secondary School Entrance Examinations.?? Adam advised younger students that there was no time like the present.??"The only thing you can’t get back is time.?? So work hard from now on and try your best," he recommended.

Students also gained places in schools such as Harrison College, Queen’s College, Combermere, The St. Michael School, Foundation, Lodge School and Deighton Griffith Secondary School.??Wills Primary School will celebrate its eleventh anniversary in September.??
