Young persons between the ages of 13 and 29 years will have the opportunity to showcase their chanting skills and win prizes while contributing to an anti-violence campaign.

The opportunity has come through the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment’s Chanting Competition being held as part of celebrations to mark International Youth Day on August 12.

To enter the competition, persons must submit: a one-minute video clip of them chanting with background rhythm of their choice, in MP4 format; the chant must begin with Gimme PEACE pun de Mic, and include what young people need to do to end the violence and also what the Division of Youth can do to help end the violence.

In addition, submissions must be original work, that is: should not have been copied from previous music, including that of the participant and must not contravene the intellectual property rights of any other person or entity.

All entries become the sole property of the Division of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment and may be used for any Division of Youth Affairs’ purposes.

The Division reserves the right to adapt, edit, modify, or otherwise use the winning submission in part or in its entirety in whatever manner it deems appropriate.

Interested persons may submit their entries from 9:00 a.m. on Monday,  July26, electronically via email to division.youth@barbados.gov.bb, with the subject line: Gimme PEACE pun de Mic.

The body of the email must include the full name(s) of the person(s) who composed the chant, national registration number, email address, postal address, and telephone number. The deadline for submission of entries is Friday, July 30.

Participants are asked to note that by entering the competition, they agree to adhere to its rules and instructions. Any violation of rules and instructions may eliminate their eligibility; and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, has the sole discretion to disqualify any entrant at any time.

Eligible entries will be reviewed by the Division of Youth Affairs’ Gimme PEACE pun de Mic Committee.  All entries that meet the criteria will be posted on the Division’s Instagram page from Monday, August 2, until Friday, August 6.  Voting will take place during this period and will end at midnight on August 6.
