As Barbados prepares to host the 47th annual meeting of the Caribbean Food Crop Society (CFCS) from July 3 to 9, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, the youth are expected to play a critical role in discussions.

This was disclosed by Chairman of the Local Planning Committee and Chief Agricultural Officer, Barton Clarke, who said a special invitation was being given to students involved in agriculture and young agriculturalists to be part of the conference.

"We are in the process of issuing special invitations to the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic and the Barbados Community College where there are students engaged in studying agriculture. The meeting also caters to young scientists in universities within the Caribbean and elsewhere. In fact over the last 10 years or so, the Society has given a prize to the best young scientist who presents a paper at the conference," he pointed out.

Mr. Clarke said the upcoming meeting will be a tremendous opportunity for scientists, students, the youth, agriculturalists, fishermen, researchers, and farmers to lend their views on key issues in the agriculture, food and fisheries sectors.

As such, he is encouraging all stakeholders to visit the 47th annual CFCS meeting’s website at http://www.cfcs2011barbados.org/ to learn details about the event and to see how they can in some way contribute to the development of agriculture in Barbados and the Caribbean.
