In an effort to increase the money management skills of young people, the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development and the Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CARTAC) are calling on local primary and secondary school students to participate in their essay contest.

The topic is: "You receive cash as a birthday gift from your favourite uncle or aunt.?? But you must use it wisely!" Participants are asked to write an essay describing what they would do with the money, and why.

The competition will be conducted in three categories. In the 9-11 age category, participants are required to write an essay of 150 words, assuming they had been given $200.?? Individuals in the 12 to 14 and 15 to18 age categories must write 300 and 500 words, detailing what they would do with $300 and $500.

Essays must be original, typed and double-spaced and printed on white letter-sized paper.?? They will be judged on content/subject, creativity, style/structure and grammar.?? Entries titled "Essay Competition" should be submitted to the Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre, First Floor, The Business Centre, Upton, St. Michael. The deadline for submissions is

First, second and third place finalists in all categories will receive a laptop and USB device, $400 cash and book vouchers from Pages Bookstore and $250 bank vouchers from the Barbados National Bank, respectively.????
