High Commissioner of Zambia to Barbados, Bobby Samakai recently paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean and heard of the island???s successful Cooperative Credit Union model.

Minister McClean, in offering ways in which cooperation could be facilitated between the two countries, said: ???Financial cooperatives credit union is a very huge business here. We have used the model to mobilise financial and other resources. It is a principal resource for average Barbadians???It is one of the businesses we can facilitate. We have had good success [with it] across the region.???

High Commissioner Samakai, while noting that this was ???definitely something to consider??? told the Minister that Barbados??? success with tourism was another area that would be of interest to Zambia.

He said: ???Tourism is something we made a priority in recent years and we want to learn from you who have been in it for a longer time.???

The two also discussed issues related to renewable energy and the sugar cane industry. Zambia and Barbados established relations in 1971.
