The first two documents have been prepared by the International Volcanic Health Hazard Network
(IVHHN), Cities and Volcanoes Commission, GNS Science and the United States Geological Survey
(USGS) to promote the safety of those who experience volcanic ashfall.

1. THE HEALTH HAZARD OF VOLCANIC ASH: A GUIDE FOR THE PUBLIC

This guide explains the potential health effects of volcanic ash and gives details on how to protect
yourself and your family in the event of a volcanic ashfall.

2. GUIDELINES ON PREPAREDNESS BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER AN ASHFALL

It details procedures to follow if a warning of a volcanic ashfall is given, recommends what to do during ashfall, and what methods are most effective for cleaning up volcanic ash after the event.

3. HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM BREATHING VOLCANIC ASH

This document has been prepared by the International Volcanic Health Hazard Network (IVHHN) to help people reduce their exposure to volcanic ash.

This guide explains how communities can protect themselves from volcanic ash and explains the effectiveness of different forms of respiratory protection and how to fit a facemask.
