The Productivity Council is on a mission to improve productivity among this island???s labour force.

To that end, says Productivity Officer at The Council, Jannell Arthur, an island-wide GET UP! (Getting Everyone To Understand Productivity) Project will be launched in September this year.

Ms. Arthur disclosed that free half-day workshops, targeting private and public sector employees, would be offered every Tuesday and Thursday in the months of September to November. Participants will discuss Productivity Awareness, Service Excellence, Communication, Work Ethics and Teamwork issues.

Persons interested in attending the sessions should call Ms. Tara Parris or Mrs. Roseann Morris at 626-9416, to register. The workshops will be held at The Productivity Council, Third Floor, Baobab Tower, Warrens, St. Michael.

Ms. Arthur explained that GET UP! started late last year in the catchment area of Warrens, Green Hill and Jackson, and over 100 persons learnt about the benefits of improved productivity. She added that a few weeks ago, workshops were held for 40 workers on the south coast, as well as 50 shop owners and staff of the Grantley Adams International Airport.

???So far, those sessions have been extremely well received and the numbers have been very encouraging. When we launched the GET UP! Project in those catchment areas, we wanted to find out the level of interest in productivity and the feedback has been excellent. Several of the organisations that registered staff for those sessions have subsequently contacted The Council to conduct special in-house training for additional staff,??? she stated.

Ms. Arthur is of the view that more people are becoming productivity conscious, and said it is, therefore, necessary to make them aware of the issues involved and to help them to put into practice what they learn.

The Productivity Council is a statutory organisation entrusted with the mandate of improving and building awareness of productivity among workers in Barbados. It conducts several programmes, including seminars on productivity-related topics.
