Minister of Youth, Family and Sports, Stephen Lashley as he addressed the media yesterday at the National Sports Council regarding plans for the National Youth Forum . Next to him is Permanent Secretary, Irvine Best.

All systems are now in place for the launch of the National Youth Forum at the Wildey Gymnasium on Sunday July 4, starting at 6:00 p.m.

Youth Minister, Stephen Lashley, gave this update yesterday during a news briefing at the National Sports Council. He took the opportunity to defend the Forum as more than just another ???fete’ but "a key initiative for the Government".??

While stating that there was an entertainment package, including popular bands Krosfyah and Strategy with Kirk Brown, among other performers, the launch would also highlight several developmental initiatives and would include a mixture of presentations by youth ambassadors and entrepreneurs.??

"I don’t know how you can classify a launch as a fete.?? It is a launch of a national institution that is designed to uplift and empower young people… The music will be wholesome music and we are signalling that we are going to have a forum that all Barbadians… can have a part of," he said.

Mr. Lashley thanked the hundreds of supporters and volunteers who have contributed and shown support for the Forum through the website, www.nationalyouthforum.org, the Facebook group, or through direct contact with the Ministry.??

The launch will be an indoor event and there will be no eating or drinking allowed in the gymnasium.?? No illegal vending will be permitted. The Transport Board has also advised that buses will be available after 10:00 p.m. on the night to transport persons leaving the Wildey Gymnasium. lbayley@barbados.gov.bb
