Male residents of the Government Industrial School (GIS) now have the tools to learn a new skill in barbering.

Minister of Home Affairs and Information, Wilfred Abrahams, presented the new equipment to acting Principal at the St. Philip institution, Seilest Bradshaw, and some of the boys, on behalf of representatives from Paradise Beauty.

Mr. Abrahams explained that the beauty store donated a full set of equipment to the school because they bought into Government’s vision that the students should learn a skill that could be of assistance on their return to society.

“I want to thank them for their donation, and I look forward to seeing the young men coming out with skills,” he said.

The Minister shared his experience with learning to cut hair at the age of 13, and using it to make money even after becoming an attorney.  He added that it was a skill he continued to use even now.

“Embrace the donation and make use of it.  Every student at the Government Industrial School must leave with a skill and this is a start,” Mr. Abrahams stated.

Ms. Bradshaw also expressed her gratitude for the donation, and was joined by the two residents who said they were willing to learn a new skill before leaving the institution.
