Science and Technology will come alive from Thursday, March 16, to Saturday, March 18, when the Science & Technology Festival returns to The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, St. Michael. It will be held “under the canopy”, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.
It is being hosted by the Department of Science, Market Research and Innovation of the Ministry of Industry, Innovation, Science and Technology and the Faculty of Science and Technology of The University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, under the theme Resilience: Purposeful Innovation for Sustainable Living.
The festival is free and promises to be an impressive display of new and emerging technologies, combined with a fun celebration of science.
There will be a Kids Zone with exciting hands on science experiments; the latest in digital technologies; functioning robots programmed by Barbadian students, and “fiery” presentations in the schools’ Science and Technology Speak Off Competition. Persons will also get the opportunity to see the results of cutting edge research being carried out right here in Barbados.
Over 40 exhibitors have registered to participate in the festival from various sectors, including non-governmental organisations and private and public sector agencies.
The objective of this three-day event is to bring together all sectors of society in a forum which allows for professionals from various fields to promote dialogue among themselves as well as the wider community.
The festival gathers together researchers, and Barbadian youth for a scientific showcase and educational platform. It was born out of a need to provide a consistent platform for scientists to share their research findings, to mentor and engage youth in matters related to science and technology, and bring new technologies to the fore for individuals to become more aware and engaged.
