As Barbados continues to feel the effects of Tropical Storm Bret, some residents are seeking emergency shelter.

Chief Shelter Warden, Dr. Ramona Archer-Bradshaw, confirmed that at this time, 29 out of the 30 Category One shelters are open. At present, she said, there were 26 persons in shelters, of which there were 15 males and 11 females.

She explained that Ellerton Weslyan Holiness Centre was closed, and persons in St. George could go to the Cuthbert Moore Primary School to seek shelter.

Dr. Archer-Bradshaw advised that anyone who wanted to seek shelter could check the shelter booklet, and safely make their way to the one closest to them, where they would be greeted by the shelter warden.

She further noted that there were 23 shelters with disability access to accommodate persons with disabilities, should the need arise.

The Chief Shelter Warden reminded persons that they should walk with their identification cards, essential supplies, food and water. “No pets are allowed in the shelters,” she emphasised.
