Government will partner with the United Nations (UN) Barbados and Eastern Caribbean Multi-Country Office to host UN Day in the City, as part of the activities in celebration of the 78th anniversary of the international organisation.

The event will be held in Golden Square Freedom Park, The City, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, December 9.

During the three-hour affair, a number of key ministries, departments, and agencies will showcase the work being done to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

Exhibitions will be mounted by the following departments under the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs: The National HIV/AIDS Commission; The One Family Programme; and the National Disabilities Unit.

There will also be displays by the Office of the Attorney General’s National Peace Program; the Ministry of Agriculture Food and Nutritional Security; the Barbados YouthAdvance Corps under the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment; the Ministry of Tourism; and the Barbados Meteorological Services.

 Health checks and glucose readings will be performed by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

Patrons will get the opportunity to test their knowledge about the SDGs to win several prizes on offer. There will also be a scavenger hunt under the theme Do You Know Your SDGs? The clues, based on the 17 SDGs, can be found in the Golden Square Freedom Park.

In addition, patrons will be entertained by dancers, calypsonians, and other cultural practitioners.
