Members of the public are invited to the launch and opening ceremony for Coastal Hazards and Earthquake Smart Month on Friday, March 1, at the Folkestone Park and Marine Reserve, Holetown, St. James, at 10:00 a.m.

Immediately following the ceremony, persons will be treated to cultural presentations, be able to tour exhibit booths, and receive updates on Barbados’ Tsunami Ready projects.

The day’s activities will also feature presentations from a number of agencies, including the Barbados Coast Guard, the Barbados Meteorological Services, the Fisheries Division, and the National Disabilities Unit.

The event is being hosted by the Technical Standing Committee on Coastal Hazards, which is co-chaired by the Department of Emergency Management and the Coastal Zone Management Unit.

It is seeking to create a greater awareness of the threats posed by coastal hazards and get persons more involved. Coastal Hazards and Earthquake Smart Month runs from March 1 to 31, under the theme Resilient Shores, Secure Futures.
