The Barbados Probation Department will host its annual “As Man” Camp 2024 from Monday, April 8, to Friday, April 19.
It will get under way with an orientation session for young male probationers and their parents or guardians on Saturday, March 16, from 10:00 a.m. in the conference room of the Department’s Roebuck Street, St. Michael office.
This will be followed by two sessions, the first on Saturday, March 23, and again on Saturday, April 6, which will serve as preparedness sessions for the campers, ahead of the start of camp.
The camp will be held at the Harold Nurse Resource Centre, Hothersal Turning, St. Michael, and is designed to divert young male offenders from further offending by equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills, enabling them to “think first” and consider the consequences of their actions.
The group will consist of 15 males between ages 13 and 16, who were assessed as being at medium or high risk for recidivism and are on probation.
After the camp, the programme will resume from September 2024 and continue until March 2025, with sessions being held once a month on Saturdays at the Barbados Probation Department.
