The Economic Affairs and Investment Division in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Affairs and Investment, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), will host a National Consultation on the Priority Sustainable Development Goals for Barbados, next week.

The two-day session will be held on Tuesday, August 6, and Wednesday, August 7, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, starting at 9:30 a.m., each day.

Minister in Economic Affairs and Investment, Chad Blackman, and Director of UNFPA Sub-Regional Office for the Caribbean and Representative to Jamaica, Elizabeth Talbert will deliver remarks.

It is expected that the consultation would achieve the following outcomes: identification of the priority SDGs indicators for the country and the baseline study; and identification of SDGs Data Focal Points in each Ministry to advance the achievement of the SDGs.

The SDGs Data Focal Points will be responsible for reporting on initiatives and projects related to the SDGs that fall within the purview of their Ministry/Department/Agency (MDAs); collating and compiling data to compute the SDGs indicators related to the specific targets that fall within the purview of their MDA; challenges encountered and strategies employed in collecting and collating the data; and best practices and lessons learned in the compilation and computing of the SDGs indicators related to the specific targets that fall within the purview of their MDA.

The consultation would also support the advancement of the SDGs through the collection, compilation, and calculation of the selected priority SDGs indicators across all MDAs.
