Fifteen of the top contestants of Baje to the World Season 3 have moved on to the Semi-Finals of the competition, which takes place on Monday, May 1, at the Dover Hardcourt, St. Lawrence, Christ Church at 7:00 p.m.
They are: Asanta Blossom, Carmen, Cyndi Celeste, Emari, The Showman, Kyrique Alleyne, Lui The Bajan, Miracle, Neffi, Golden Girl, Neisha, Shaquan Smith, SkyyDrive, Tillieann and Yahandje.
The names were announced on Sunday night (April 23), after the seventh and final Preliminary Challenge of the Season, which saw contestants performing a wide range of genres for the Blind Challenge, including Spice’s Bob’s Song, Rihanna’s Lift Me Up, Destra’s Bonnie and Clyde, Edwin Yearwood’s Something Greater and Kool & the Gang’s Ladies’ Night.
Producer of the show, Dwayne Grazette, explained that the response for Season 3 of Baje to the World, an initiative of the Community Development Department in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, has been fantastic.
He stated: “We have had a phenomenal season with some amazing young and talented Barbadians, who showcased their talent for us over the past few months. The support from Bajans each week has been remarkable and I want to thank all those who attended our preliminaries.
“Each week, our venues were packed to capacity and there were countless persons who could not attend because we could only accommodate a certain number at each venue. But we are pleased to let Barbados know that this will not be the case for the Semi-Finals on May Day at Dover. We have more than enough space so we want to encourage all Barbadians to come out and witness some of the awesome talent which exists right here in Bim.”
TV Producer of the show, Teshia Hinds, explained that Barbadians were out for a top-notch event on May 1. She said: “We started with live auditions in various communities across the country and the competition was fierce from day 1. For each of our seven Preliminary Challenges, which included music genres ranging from Reggae to Jazz to Soca, our contestants did not disappoint and based on these performances we are confident the Semi-Finals will be top-notch.
“Each of the 15 contestants will perform two pieces – one genre they selected via a blind draw and the other will be their personal choice in their bid for a spot in the Finals on Sunday, May 14, and a chance to win $20,000 in cash and other prizes, as well as a chance to perform internationally with world-renowned Soca artiste Destra.”
Ms. Hinds reminded Barbadians that the show on May 1 at Dover starts at 7:00 p.m. sharp and noted that all information on the event can be found on the Baje to the World website or at bajetotheworld on Facebook and @bajetodeworld on Instagram.
