As part of the activities to mark Child Month 2023, the Child Care Board (CCB) will host a number of activities under the theme Nurturing Children, Strengthening Families.

On Sunday, May 7, there will be a youth seminar hosted by the Intake and Child Abuse Team of the CCB on Attacking Violence Through the Voices of the Adolescents.  This will be held at the Desmond Haynes Pavilion, Holder’s Hill, St. James, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

A week of open days will commence on Monday, May 8, at the John Beckles, Grazettes, Delores “Ma” Worrell, Joan Arundell and Madam Ifill Day Nurseries, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, and from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Persons are also encouraged to come out to a Family Hike and Residential Care Picnic on Saturday, May 13, at Bath Beach, St. John, from 10:00 a.m.

On Monday, May 15, there will be another week of open days.  This time the Haynesville, Bagatelle, Eden Lodge, Nightengale and the Farm nurseries will open their doors to the public, between 10:00 a.m. and noon, and from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. each day.

The CCB will host a Foster Care Workshop entitled Alternatives to Corporal Punishment at its offices at Cheapside, Bridgetown, on Saturday, May 20, from 9:00 a.m.

Later that day, the child protection agency will host a Variety Concert at Solidarity House, Harmony Hall, St. Michael, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

The final week of open days for government day nurseries comes off on Monday, May 22, at the Marion Hall, Sayes Court, London Bourne, Geoffrey Morris and Colleton centres.  Those will also run from 10:00 to noon, and 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

On Saturday, May 27, the Family Fun Day & Healthy Lifestyle Extravaganza will be held at the Deighton Griffith Secondary School, Kingsland Main Road, Christ Church, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

During the month of activities, there will also be four PAREDOS Parenting seminars on the topic Influencing Your Child, Managing Self, Fostering a New Family Experience.

They will be held tomorrow, Saturday, May 6, at Solidarity House, Harmony Hall, St. Michael; Saturday, May 13, at the Coleridge and Parry Secondary School, Ashton Hall, St. Peter; Saturday, May 20, at the Glebe Community Centre, Glebe, St. George; and on Saturday, May 27, at the Ivan Harewood Centre, Christ Church Parish Church, Church Hill, Christ Church. Each seminar begins at 8:30 a.m.

The curtain comes down on the activities on Sunday, June 4, with a Foster Care Public Education Forum at Carrington Wesleyan Holiness Church, Welches, St. Michael, from 5:30 p.m.
