The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Security will observe International Day of Plant Health on Friday, May 12, under the theme Plant Health “We can all play a part”.

The day is used to raise global awareness, and citizens are encouraged to take action to keep plants healthy and protect the environment and biodiversity.

The Ministry will conduct plant clinics to highlight the importance of maintaining healthy plants. Members of the farming community, hobbyists and the general public are urged to bring samples or photographs of affected plants, so that a diagnosis or follow up visit could be done.

Plant clinics will be held next week on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, May 9, EZ Pave Hardware, Rock Dundo, Cave Hill, St. Michael (opposite Christ The King (Anglican) Church in the Savings Plus Complex)
  • Wednesday, May 10, Carter’s and Co., Wildey, St. Michael
  • Thursday, May 11, Massy, Warrens, St. Michael
  • Saturday, May 13, St. Augustine Church, Market Hill, St. George

Each clinic will run from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, and on Saturday, from noon to 3:00 p.m. For further information on International Day of Plant Health, contact Michael James, Bret Taylor, or Ian Griffith at 535-5203 or 535-6601.
