Come Monday, June 16, the most outstanding Ambassadors for 2007 will be wending their way to the United Kingdom to spread the community independence message there.
Eighteen year old Justin Greaves and 20 year old Tracia Collymore will be in Britain for one week to meet and greet members of the Barbadian and West Indian communities living there and sensitise them on this country’s community independence programme.
They will be accompanied by Attendant of the Year, Oldwin Skeete of St. Andrew.
The aim of the annual assignment is to forge closer relations with Barbadian communities abroad and to promote the work of the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat (CICS) as it seeks to infuse the spirit of independence in Barbadian communities overseas.
Minister of Community Development and Culture, Steven Blackett; Permanent Secretary, Shirley Farnum; National Coordinator of the CICS, Curtis Gibbons; and representatives of the St. Lucy Parish Independence Committee will see the Ambassadors off at the airport.
The Ambassadors and attendant had been undergoing training in areas such as communications, national heritage, handling the media, etiquette and protocol, among other areas, to equip them with the necessary skills to undertake their overseas assignment.
They will return to the island on Monday, June 23.
