The Draft Electricity Supply Bill, 2023, will regulate the generation, storage, transmission, distribution, dispatch, supply and sale of electricity in the newly democratised electricity market. It will replace the Electric Light and Power Act, 2013-2021 (ELPA). The Bill seeks to modernise the regulatory regime that was introduced under the ELPA to make provision for the changing technological opportunities being developed in renewable energy, and its implications for climate change and sustainable economic development.
