The Corporate Affairs and Intellectual Property Office is encouraging Barbadians to participate in two competitions being hosted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

They are the World Intellectual Property Day 2024 Youth Video Competition, and the 2024 World Intellectual Property Organization’s Global Awards.

WIPO is inviting individuals 18 to 35 years old (by the close of date for entries), to unleash their creativity in a 60 to 90-second video showcasing how an inventor, creator, entrepreneur, or local community near them is shaping a better future for all with innovation, creativity, and intellectual property (IP) rights.

With IP, We Can Dream of a Better Future, Turn Our Ideas into Reality and Create a World where Everyone Thrives is the theme of the video competition, and the submission may be done individually or in teams of not more than 10.

The deadline for entry is 11:59 p.m. Central Europe Time, on Sunday, March 10. The winner will be announced on World Intellectual Property Day, April 26.

For details on the competition rules and requirements, persons should go to https://www.wipo.int/web/ipday/2024-sdgs/index .

Meanwhile, the theme of the WIPO Global Awards is IP and the SDGs: Building Our Common Future with Innovation and Creativity. This competition is open to start-ups, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises across the world, active in all sectors of the economy, including technology, agriculture, and the creative industries.

Applications using all forms of IP ranging from copyright to trademarks, patents, to geographical indications, will be accepted. The deadline for this competition is Sunday, March 31.
